Leadership Awards

JB and Boryana have had the honor of studying and developing human top performance in both the for-profit and non-profit realms. Because many mentors have contributed to their trajectories, the two strive to pay it forward and be there for the next generation of leaders. The Straubel Foundation discovers talent through Referrals and the annual Straubel Leadership Award applications.

Impact Investments

All Straubel Foundation Program Related Investments (PRIs) are in service of environmental sustainability.

Science & Engineering: We are ready to support the technology of the future. Often, a great idea has difficulty finding support because it is ahead of its time. It might be too risky, not profitable enough, not trendy, or simply unanticipated by local policies. Yet if such idea could benefit our society, we should do our best to make it happen.

Social Innovation: Long-lasting transformation means changing everyday behaviors. Such change is hard. Many forces pull people towards the most profitable ideas, not the best ideas. The Straubel Foundation strives to identify ideas that will positively impact tomorrow and invest in them today.

Education

The Straubel Foundation supports young people as they pursue their passions in science and engineering. The Foundation supports key initiatives at Stanford University, Rocky Mountain Institute, and the Midwest Renewable Energy Association.

The Gemasolar Solar Concentrator in Seville, Spain, contains 2,650 heliostat mirrors that focus the sun’s thermal energy to heat molten salt flowing through a 460ft (140m) tall central tower. The molten salt then circulates from the tower to a storage tank, producing steam that generates electricity. The facility displaces 30,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions, annually.
